Legal Fees - Applying for the Grant of Representation Only (Fixed Fee)
Breakdown of costs – this fixed fee service includes obtaining the grant only:
Fixed Fee for obtaining The Grant of Representation only where the Short Form Inheritance Tax Form is required : £1,500 + VAT at 20%
Fixed Fee for obtaining The Grant of Representation only where the Long Form Inheritance Tax Form is required : £2,500 + VAT at 20%
- Provide you with a dedicated and experienced probate solicitor to work on your matter
- Identify the legally appointed executors or administrators
- Accurately identify the type of Probate application you will require
- Obtain the relevant documents required to make the application
- Complete the Probate Application and the relevant HMRC forms
- Draft a legal oath for you to swear
- Make the application to the Probate Court on your behalf
- Obtain the Probate and securely send two copies to you
Please note that we do not collect and distribute assets in the estates that fall within this range. On average, estates that fall within this range are dealt with within 8 – 16 weeks. Typically, obtaining the grant of probate takes 6 weeks.
Legal Fees - Applying for the Grant of Representation as well as Collecting and Distributing the Assets
The exact cost will depend on the individual circumstances of the matter. For example, if there is one beneficiary and no property, costs will be at the lower end of the range. If there are multiple beneficiaries, a property and multiple bank accounts, costs will be at the higher end.
Please see an indication of what the Legal Fee may be below :
- Estate Value of up to £50,000 without a property and up to 4 accounts (based on 7 –10 hours of time) : Ranging from £2,500 to £3,300 + VAT at 20%
- Estate Value between £50,000 and £100,000 without a property and up to 6 accounts (based on 9 to 16 hours of time) : Ranging from £3,300 to £4,900 + VAT at 20%
- Estate Value between £100,000 and £325,000 to include a property and up to 12 investments (based on 16 to 30 hours of time) : Ranging from £4,900 to £8,500 + VAT at 20%
- Estate Value between £325,000 and £650,000 to include a property and up to 16 investments (based on 20 to 38 hours of time) : Ranging from £8,500 to £10,600 + VAT at 20%
- Estate Value between £650,000 and £2,000,000 to include a property and up to 30 investments (based on 28 to 120 hours of time) : Ranging from £10,600 to £35,000 + VAT at 20%
- Estate Value over £2,000,000 : Costs by Agreement.
Disbursements on All Probate Matters (Where applicable VAT is included at 20%)
- Probate Court Fee : £273.00
- Bankruptcy Only Land Charges Department Searches : £2.00 (per beneficiary)
- Statutory Notice Fees (if required) approximately £225.00
Disbursements are costs related to your matter that are payable to third parties, such as court fees. We handle the payment of the disbursements on your behalf to ensure a smoother process.
Potential additional costs
- If there is no will or the estate consists of any share holdings (stocks and bonds) there is likely to be additional costs that could range significantly depending on the estate and how it is to be dealt with. We can give you a more accurate quote once we have more information.
- If any additional copies of the grant are required.
- Dealing with the sale or transfer of any property in the estate is not included.
